After a long cruel summer, the Fylers season officially opened this past Sunday amidst celebration and remembrance of our friend and beloved ambassador of Fylers hockey, Mark Birke. Fylers faithful, family and friends turned out in droves at the old Tilles complex to pay homage to Mark through an abundance of food, laughs and good times. Mark wouldn’t have had it any other way.
But before the grill was fired up and the cookies passed around, the business was hockey. The Tilles complex, which had remained dark for the last few months , was revived by a dedicated maintenance crew, opening the fourth season of Fylers hockey.
The season opener saw the return of Fyler notables. Among them, Michael Frain, who was freshly recovered from his off season ‘procedure.’ Don’t worry Michael, you can barely tell they’re plugs. Very natural.
And goalie/defensive liability Joel Lewis returned to the squad after rumors of a failed acting endeavor. Sources close to Lewis deny any ‘failing’ but confirm that the mediocre goalie had missed the last two weeks of the preseason in order to cut his teeth on his second career on the stage.
“I can’t play hockey forever. This is my insurance policy,” commented Lewis after the opener. According to the local reviews, he may want to make some additional arrangements.
We look forward to the new season and hope that Fylers management are able to continue splitting time between the restored Tilles barn and their new home at Brentwood Gardens. Join us this
Sunday October 28th at the Gardens, 9am and bring your yellin’ voice.
