Fyler action was hot if not heavy this past weekend as our boys in blue, red and yellow dazzled fans with feats of hockey greatness. Dave Bain was again impressive in what seems to be becoming routine half-rink meetings. On the winning and losing end of it, he still managed to hold the offense at bay dragging the only tow games to a record hour and a half.
Fylers fans continue to enjoy the return of veteran Al Ebert and are getting to know some of the new Fyler faces, but are a mixture of confused and concerned at the absence of some of their favorite Fylers.
John Brooks was again absent from weekend action and was unreachable for comment. Fylers Spokesman would not confirm the rumors that Brooks had been scratched after refusing to reveal his whereabouts Thursday night. All of this continues to fan the flames of suspicion that Brooks' fast an furious personal life may be catching up with him.
Forward Dave Rutledge is another Fyler whose status can only be described as MIA. Early word on Rutledge was that the move to Brentwood Gardens posed a moral dilemma for the environmentally principled and outspoken left-winger.
"When choosing team, I made sure to keep it local. I want to play in my community and leave as small an imprint on my environment as possible. That's just good sense."
He is not prepared to make any predictions on his future with the team, but analysts are worried that without a increase in playing time, his quest for the Fyler record for the most goals in the least number of shots will be in jeopardy. He only needs three more goals in 22 or fewer shots to wrest the distinction from Fylers legend Zippy Manfredo set in 1952.
Fans hope there's some way to lure two of their most beloved Fylers back to the team, but in the meantime hope continues that other healthy scratches from last week (M. Frain, C. Hess, D. Williams among them) return this
