The Fylers have turned up the heat and put heavy pressure on the Player’s Association resulting in an all but signed collective bargaining agreement. But the restructuring of the league’s revenue sharing formula, and issues of player parking spaces have been put off until the next meeting in late August.
Now, if the Fylers can just keep up the numbers. Heat, vacations and a precocious 12-year old have stymied numbers the last couple of weeks, but head coach Hampton isn’t worried.
“July and August are a slog for us, but I can guarantee there isn’t a Fyler out there that would rather sit at home in the air conditioning than sweat every out molecule of moisture and sun burn every exposed area of flesh. These guys are warriors and they know it’ll pay off.”
Conditioning coach Lars Bahnsen is worried about the effects of the heat on at least one member of the Fylers roster.
“I don’t want to name names here, but one of our goalies is in desperate need of some reconditioning. He’s been skating out the past couple of weeks and it’s…well a depressing comment on the state of our physical conditioning. As long as it’s hot, he’ll blame that I’m sure.”
Team officials are disappointed they won’t be able to capitalize on the wealth of good karmic fortune promised on 07.07.07. Adding insult to injury, a scheduling mishap over a year ago means the team will also fail to take advantage of the annual free Slurpee day on 07.11.07. For the rest of us, we’ll celebrate summer with the Fylers without the pomp and circumstance on Sunday July 8, 2007 at 9am.
