Following last week’s unexpected work stoppage called by the SCHL’s Players Association, uneasiness is brewing about the resumption of play this week. Fylers management had no comment on events leading to the unprecedented cancelling of last weeks’ game, but we’re quick to point out that negotiations were underway and that the outcome was ‘promising.”
The Players Association has been slow to release any information about the stoppage, leading to spirited and, at times pessimistic speculation in the sports editorial pages. The old time and opinionated Francis Bradley commented in Tuesday’s Post Dispatch:
“There’s really no other way to read this than as a shot over the bow to management. Clearly the players are getting restless and a little fed up with the promises and the lack of follow through. I’m not sure how much longer Marave is going to hold on here.”
Without a formal vote by its members, the Players Association no alternative but to ask the players to return to play. The full member meeting is scheduled for early July and a full vote is expected then.
A tenuous peace has been forged for the time being, and play is scheduled to resume this Sunday, June 24th at 9am.
