Last week's gag order enacted by team management was said to be in anticipation of a "significant team announcement." At a press conference held today at 8:16am CST, Fylers spokesman Pierre Reedy announced the retirement of the Fylers 43 year-old logo.
Designed by school teacher Hillary Tholozan in 1964, the old mark embodied the simplicity and unrefined qualities synonymous with Fylers Hockey. Mrs. Tholozan, a dyed in the wool fan, died in 1982 after a Fylers concession stand hotdog got the better of her; a noble exit for one of the team’s loyal enthusiasts.
When asked how he thought his late wife would feel about the passing on of her contribution to the Fylers legacy, Norman Tholozan was reticent and a little emotional.
“Sometimes you just have to move on. Hillary will always be a Fylers fan, but I know drawing that logo was a highlight for her.”
But management is excited about the move, and while no one will find immediate flaws with the new logo, some claim it represents the new profit driven, and bottom line.
“We obviously have a great respect for the old logo, but we recognized the need for a new look, and we’re excited about the merchandising opportunities for the organization.”
9:00am Sunday, June 10th at Brentwood Gardens will be the first time the new Fylers look will be available to the public. In order to bolster enthusiasm, the team will offer free t-shirts to those in attendance.
