Following the dramatic change in venue for the Fylers, there had been very little coverage of the war of words launched against the NHL’s Gary Bettman in early April. A column from April 15th, quoted Fylers owner Ted Marave making disparaging remarks about the NHL.
Although much tamer than his previous comments, Marave’s words did not escape the notice of the NHL’s Bettman. In a recent interview Bettman shot back at his rival and the SCHL.
“I heard Marave’s comment about us being a league full of little girls and I don’t have much to say about it other than to point out the fact that at least in our league, we can manage to scrape enough players together for a full ice game. If I heard right, Ted’s Fylers can’t manage a four-on-four game. “
And while the hockey world braces for Marave’s undoubtedly lewd and colorful rebuttal, Fylers management has seemed to take the NHL’s attendance criticism to heart. At a Wednesday press conference Pierre Reedy announced the dismissal of Transportation Coordinator Arthur Marquette.
Marquette, who was responsible for getting the Fylers to their temporary playing facilities was described by Reedy as “ineffective and essentially absent the last few weeks.”
Let’s hope Marquette’s replacement, yet to be named can get Fyler attendance back on track for
Sunday May 6th at 9am. Games continue at the
