St. Louis
After weeks of battling mother nature, amid management controversy and a barrage of ‘trash talk’ the Fylers returned to sealed asphalt Saturday for the first game of this two ‘ought seven.
The Fylers wasted no time dispelling the rumors that extended lay-off would adversely affect the players. Despite a number of healthy scratches, the Fylers looked strong and play was spirited. A controversial penalty shot in Game two forced defenseman John Brooks to speculate on the refereeing, “Looks like the refs are still on vacation.”
The call made little impact on the 4-1 final, but did elicit retaliation from an otherwise mild mannered Dave Rutledge a few plays later. No call was made, but both benches were warned and the game finished without incident.
Fylers spokesman Pierre Reedy was pleased with Saturday’s showing, but showed signs of frustration when pressed for comment on the ongoing facility debate. “We want to stay focused on the positive right now and are looking to the hockey this weekend.”
Games are currently scheduled for
9am, Sunday January 28th at the Tilles complex. Fingers will be crossed the slight chance of precipitation on Saturday doesn’t foil the Fylers first attempt at a streak.
